If you are a Quakertown Borough resident or visiting the borough and looking for a place to enjoy a drink, in the future you may want to stop by West Broad Street.
Borough council, at Wednesday evening's meeting, unanimously approved an inter-municipal liquor license to SLJ Restaurant, LLC, 315 W. Broad St.
The business is owned by Bert and Sara Jones of Quakertown.
Sarah said the restaurant will sell various beers in the form of bottles and six packs. The business will also offer sealed beer in a 64 oz. jug.
The restaurant will seat 30 and offer food items as well.
"We're going to start with a basic menu," she said. "We don't want it to be a bar scene."
The establishment will also hold beer tastings, similar to wine tastings.
The name of the restaurant is still unknown.
"It's still up in the air," Sara said.
The anticipated hours of operation will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and 10 or 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Attorney Richard A. Lefchak, legal counsel for the applicants, said there are a few requirements that must be completed before the transfer is finalized.
"We still have a couple of steps to go yet," he said. "This is one of a few."
In other business, council unanimously approved a resolution endorsing the establishment of a rail trail in downtown Quakertown.
The trail will be a combination of hiking and walking and will originate from Saucon Valley.
"The concept at this point is to follow the right-of-way into the borough," Quakertown resident Steve Biddle said.
Council also approved a police leave of absence policy.
Borough Manager Scott McElree said the policy requires there be an opening, the officer apply for a leave of absence and council approve the absence.
"There is no rank guarantee and no seniority guarantee," McElree said of officers returning.
Also during the meeting, council approved a resolution appointing Councilwoman Jann Paulovitz to fill former Councilman Daniel Williams’ term on the Quakertown Area Industrial Development Authority through December 2016.
