It is a Pennsylvania Dutch tradition to eat pork and sauerkraut on New Year's Day.
That's why hundreds of shoppers have been flocking to Johnny's Fresh Meats in Allentown, in preparation for the holiday.
"We stay up around the clock getting orders ready," owner of Johnny's Fresh Meats, John Smucker said.
Over the weekend alone, Smucker sells about a ton and a half of pork. The business has been around since 1951, passed down from generation to generation.
"I'm about ready to get out of it," Smucker said. "My son's going to do it next."
Smucker said preparing and selling meat is a labor of love. Customers say when they stop by they feel like part of Smucker's family.
"If you're making something for the first time, they're so willing to share recipes, " Coopersburg resident, Joanne Barnak said.
"Once you come in here they all get to know you and you meet friends," Whitehall resident, Hilda Newhard said.
While the days leading up to the holiday are hectic, Smucker said he looks forward to the break that comes afterward.
"On New Year's Day we don't know who we are," Smucker laughed.
