The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced work will begin Monday, March 9th to replace the Mill Creek Road Bridge over Brodhead Creek in Stroud Township, Monroe County.
The project involves replacing the existing structurally deficient three span steel I-beam bridge with a two span bulb T-beam bridge. The new bridge will include two 11 foot lanes, two 5 foot shoulders, new sidewalk and bridge barriers.
Also included in the project are new roadway approaches on Mill Creek Road, roadway work on Stokes Mill Road, temporary intersection improvements at the intersection of PA 191 and PA 447, utility relocation, brush cutting and other miscellaneous construction.
During construction, Mill Creek Road will be closed and detoured from Stokes Mill Road to Creek Drive. The posted detour will use PA 191 and PA 447. Motorists are advised to expect delays and allow extra time when traveling through the area.
The project is scheduled to be complete in November 2017. All schedules are subject to change.
J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Pa. is the general contractor on the $3,429,788 project.
The Mill Creek Road Bridge was originally constructed in 1957. It is 188 feet long and 24 feet wide. The new bridge will be 196 feet long and 40 feet wide. This section of Mill Creek Road has an average daily traffic volume of 8,240 vehicles.
