An 18-year-old Allentown man is facing multiple charges after he stole a dump truck on Dec. 29 and led police on a high-speed chase along Rt 78.
According to court documents, Karl Gustav Wolfram, of the 1100 block of Lightenwalner Ave. allegedly stole the dump truck, which was parked on the 600 block of Cherokee Street in Bethlehem, at approximately 12:39 pm.
The truck's owner, Roger Marth, was in the rear bed at the time and attempted to climb into the cab and stop Wolfram, according to court documents.
Wolfram accelerated, while Marth stood on the passenger side running board, throwing Marth from the vehicle.
Salisbury Township police spotted the vehicle near Emmaus Ave. and South 4th Street and police began to pursue him, traveling onto South Pike, then onto westbound Rt 78, according to court documents.
Wolfram traveled at a high rate of speed on Rt 78, and attempted to crash the dump truck into pursuing police vehicles, documents said.
Wolfram left Rt 78 at Cedar Crest Blvd., and then swerved off the road, ran over a tree and the dump truck ended up disabled in a cornfield, documents said.
Police ordered Wolfram out of the dump truck and after he refused, utilized a K9 unit to get Wolfram to exit the vehicle, documents said.
Wolfram was arraigned before District Justice Michael Faulkner on Dec. 29 on charges of Robbery Of Motor Vehicle , Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Officer, Theft By Unlawful Taking-Movable Property, Unauthorized Use Motor/Other Vehicles, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Resist Arrest, and Receiving Stolen Property
Wolfram was lodged in Lehigh County Prison on $100,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 5, 2015.
