The Reading Royals defeated the Wheeling Nailers, 5-4, on Friday night at the Santander Arena. Wheeling trailed 5-1 less than 7 minutes into the final period. But the Nailers scored 3 unanswered goals to make it tight.
Brandon Alderson scored a pair of goals to lead the Royals, including the eventual game-winner in the third period. Ryan Cruthers added 4 assists in one of his best games of the year.
Reading goaltender Martin Ouellette had a clean sheet through the first two periods before allowing 4 goals in the 3rd.
The Royals and Nailers continue their 3-game weekend set in Reading on Saturday night at 7:05.
