With the Republicans winning the Senate majority last month the next big question is: What do they plan to do?
Republican Congressman Charlie Dent of Pennsylvania's 15th Congressional District, says he would like to see movement in three areas: progress with the Keystone Pipeline, repealing a medical device tax and restoring a 40 hour work week for some employees.
"Those three issues will likely go the president fairly quickly," Congressman Dent said.
Republicans, like Congressman Dent, say authorizing construction of the Keystone Pipeline would create over 40,000 jobs and boost energy resources.
Another issue Congressman Dent is pushing for is repealing a medical device tax. In January of last year, the IRS issued a 2.3 percent medical device excise tax that manufacturers and importers paid on sales of certain medical devices.
Dent says the tax is driving up costs, stifling innovation and destroying thousands of jobs.
"33,000 jobs have been affected or lost as a result," Congressman Dent said.
The third issue has to do with laws that govern health care. Congressman Dent says the new health care law redefined full time work to 30 hours.
"Workers are getting their hours cut, in many cases jobs lost," Congressman Dent said. "We're trying to restore the 40 hour work week."
Congressman Dent says he believes those three issues will be moved out within the first quarter of the new year. Other issues that Congressman Dent says needs to be addressed are defense spending and immigration.
