A message spread on billboards across Berks and Schuylkill counties encourages the people passing by to "thank a cop."
That message was carried out Tuesday in the form of several cakes and cards that were delivered to the Exeter Township police station.
Such sentiments are often presented to police during the holidays, but the Exeter department said it has seen an influx in people's appreciation this year.
"It feels good to know that the public recognizes we're not out there to get them but we're here to work with them to make things better," said Sgt. Steve Schaeffer. "We're really not looking for appreciation. We're just really looking for people to understand that we're all here to work through society's problems together."
Messages like, "No one appreciates a cop until you need one," are being displayed on Land Displays billboards throughout Berks and Schuylkill County.
Jim Landrigan, owner of the Reading-based company, told 69 News last week that the messages are his way of taking a stand against the recent police backlash nationwide.
