The work week started Monday with sunshine, which is helping some seasonal businesses, but it is frustrating for others.
"I've been watching this place constantly for the past two days, waiting for it to subside," said Dan Shoemaker, referring to the Kuhnsville Car Wash in Lehigh County.
After a brutal stretch of bitter cold temperatures that left the car wash frozen, Monday made it the perfect place for Leigh Simpson, who couldn't get in this past weekend.
"The line was short enough that I could actually get in," she said.
Such a long line this is the third week in a row. The wash started the day with 12 employees, but that number doubled by noon, with more expected by late-afternoon.
"As soon as the sun comes out, everybody wants to get their car washed," said Josh Widner, the general manager.
For Mike Costello of Whitehall Township, Lehigh County, the sun is a tease.
"This snow, it kills me. Guys are getting antsy, want to get out and start working," he said.
Costello owns Triple Crown Lawn Care. He said he typically wants to start fertilizing by mid-March.
"In order for that to happen, the snow needs to be gone and we need to rise the soil temperature from there," he added.
A full melt could take weeks, pushing back Costello's timeline, which has him dreaming of summer, in the meantime.
"We want to start seeing grass. It's been missing for sometime now," Costello said.
So, too, has a solid car wash for many, at least until the sun came out.
"There is nobody who is not thrilled, including my car," Simpson added.
