Potholes are popping up all around Berks County, but drivers say the ride is especially bad in Reading.
"They are bad all over the city. It is terrible," said Jeffrey Bachtlin.
"The potholes are terrible. I was dodging a couple of them today. They really need to be fixed," said Siedah Singleton.
Public works crews are hitting the streets, trying to do just that. They have been filling the pesky patches drivers despise for more than a month now.
Supervisors in Reading told 69 News that crews filled 800 potholes in February, but as the last bit of snow melts and the temperatures rise, the battle is far from over. Crews are now bringing in a new weapon for backup.
"We are going to try a new product that is a permanent patch in the high-traffic areas so they do not get washed out or banged out by the cars and have to be refilled," said Ralph Johnson, the director of Reading Public Works.
The new product is a lot more expensive, but supervisors said they believe the savings and labor time of having to go back and patch the same spot multiple times will offset the cost.
Crews will start using that product on Tuesday, but until all the holes get patched, they said be careful.
"Right now, people need to drive cautiously, especially in the dark, as we know this is the pothole problem time of year," said Johnson.
