A traffic circle in West Reading now has a new name thanks to a little girl who touched hearts around the world.

The site, located at Reading Avenue and Buttonwood Street will now be known as Delaney Circle.

It was named in honor of Laney Brown, the 8-year-old girl from West Reading who lost her 7-month battle with leukemia on Christmas morning last year.

Hundreds turned out for the dedication ceremony, complete with dancing ballerinas, singers, and even a visit from Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus.

"People still say her name every day. It's not just us. She's not forgotten," said Jennifer Capone-Brown, Laney's mother. "We have good days and bad days. I'm not going to lie. Some days you just don't get out of bed, and with the support from our family and friends we make it through."

Around $19,000 has been raised to make the project a reality.

A stone with Laney's name on it will sit inside the circle next to a decorative frog that Laney's dad had been working on. The front, along with a memorial stone were unveiled during the dedication ceremony Monday night.

Laney's father says working on the project was a form of healing.

"It was. It was kind of refreshing," said Jeremiah Brown. "It really let me know that I'm not really alone."

Many will never forget the thousands who flooded the street in front of Laney's home last year to grant her wish of hearing Christmas carolers. Laney, then too sick to join the carolers, listened from her window as so many on the street sang from the bottom of their hearts.

"This whole area just put childhood cancer on the map with Laney."
