With a wintry storm looming right before Thanksgiving, grocery shoppers are in a race against the snow.
Customers rushed Tuesday to check off their grocery lists at the Fairgrounds Farmer's Market in Muhlenberg Township.
"I'm praying the storm out to sea, but just in case, we thought we'd get it done today," said shopper Patricia Diamond, of Birdsboro. "This is crazy in here!"
The uptick was expected by some vendors, like Drew Hoober with Hoober Produce.
"Last night, we brought extra help in, anticipating a busier than normal Tuesday here at the market," Hoober said. "Everybody wants to get their shopping done before the snow comes."
Hoober said he expects Wednesday will be much slower than normal, but that doesn't mean he'll take a big hit.
"We expect that the extra business today will come out of tomorrow," he said. "It's just gonna be harder to manage it, all but I think people, all-in-all, gotta have their stuff. Their gonna get it one way or the other."
Such was the case over at Market Street Poultry. Owner Alison Cifarelli said dozens of customers have called her to see about picking up their turkeys early.
"[They] are afraid to come out in the snow, so they are coming in today," she said. "Fortunately for them, we've already bagged and tagged all our birds. We're ready for the onslaught!"
Amidst the rush and chaos, customers said they aren't letting the untimely storm impact their holiday spirits.
"Everybody's like, you know, 'Happy Thanksgiving,' and it's kind of nice in here today," said shopper Brenda Rodriguez. "Nice and warm."
