Pennsylvania's next governor has named his chief of staff, who just happens to be a former competitor for the Democratic nomination.
Gov.-elect Tom Wolf on Monday named Kathleen "Katie" McGinty as the incoming chief of staff for his administration.
"Katie McGinty has broad experience in state and federal government and in the private sector," Wolf said. "She will be an asset to my administration and to the people of Pennsylvania. In federal and state government, Katie worked with diverse interests to achieve meaningful change in difficult environments. Her experience will help me work with Republicans and Democrats to move Pennsylvania forward."
McGinty has more than 25 years of experience in public service, including work with then U.S. Sen. Al Gore on the Clean Air Act and deputy assistant and chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality in the President Bill Clinton administration.
Until Wolf takes office on Jan. 20, 2015, McGinty will assist Wolf as he builds his administration.
McGinty was a candidate for the governor's office herself, but she was defeated by Wolf in the Democratic primary in May.
