70+ local businesses unite to collect coats for those in need

More than 70 Lehigh Valley area businesses are participating in a program to collect and donate winter gear to the needy this year.

That's double the number from last year!

Project Keep Warm collects coats, hats and other cold weather gear for those in need.

The annual drive is coordinated by the Lehigh Valley Business Group, a non-profit organization that unites local businesses and non-profits to benefit the greater Lehigh Valley community.

According to LVBG officials, although the unemployment rate has dropped, there are still large numbers of low income or working poor families throughout the Lehigh Valley and beyond.

The community organizations that service these people still see a need for coats, hats, blankets and other cold weather gear.

This year LVBG hopes to collect at least 2,000 winter items, double last year’s total.

Those interested in donating coats, hats, scarves, gloves, blankets and other winter items to Project Keep Warm can leave them in specially-marked donation boxes at participating locations in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

The program runs through Dec. 31.
