A former fugitive who was once one of the most-wanted men in America will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
A Berks County judge on Monday formally sentenced Miguel Torres to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the killing of his estranged wife, Barbie Torres.
A jury in February found Torres guilty of all charges, including first degree murder, for the deadly shooting, which happened in a parking lot outside the Berks County Courthouse in downtown Reading on Sept. 12, 2005.
Torres fled the country and remained on the run until his capture in Italy in 2013.
During Monday's hearing, five of Barbie's family members provided impact statements.
Torres also addressed the court and proclaimed his innocence, saying he was wrongly convicted.
WFMZ's Ryan Hughes was in the courtroom. He'll have a full report on 69 News at 5:30.
