A college in New Jersey is still reeling from the loss of a historic building on campus.

Now a decision will have to be made about how to move forward.

Built in 1910 and owned by Centenary College, in Hackettstown, New Jersey, for 70 years.

This home has a lot of history.

“There’s a lot of alumni, thousands of alumni, that has experienced the place,” said John Carno, assistant vice president for college relations at Centenary College.

Now all that's left of the landmark is a burnt frame.

“It was a great loss not only for Centenary but for the community because of its historical value,” said Carno.

“My sister who lives here told us about the fire,” said Susan Kenny, a Centenary graduate.

The four alarm fire broke out on January 7th, and places where people once sat are now replaced by icicles from the water used to douse the flames.

“Special occasion teas were held in the president’s house," said Kenny "It was a very lovely, lovely house.”

“It’s devastating, it’s sad," said Carno. "It’s a part of our history, it’s a part of the town’s history.”

The college is trying to preserve the history at 400 Jefferson Street.

A historical display will be placed in the library and college administrators need a little help.

“If there is anyone in the community that has photos of the building from the past or even taken during the event, fire event, they can contact me at the college,” added Carno.

A board meeting is scheduled to decide what to do with the building and property.

“The physical aspect is gone, but the memories will live on through so many people, who have been through the building and have been associated with it,” said Carno
