Officials in Montgomery County have charged a woman with DUI homicide by vehicle in connection with a fatal accident in August.

According to District Attorney Risa Ferman, Alexandria Cogan had a blood alcohol concentration of .253% at the time of the crash, which is more than three times the legal limit.

Cogan was charged Monday with the death of Stuart Cogan.

The accident happened on August 19 on Huntington Pike near Spur Road in Lower Moreland Township.

Police said Alexandria Cogan was driving a Mazda Miata south on Huntington Pike at a high rate of speed when she failed to negotiate a curve in the road.

Her car traveled across the northbound lane, directly in front of a car driven by Michael Downing.

The passenger side of Cogan's vehicle hit the front of Downing's car and the Miata flipped onto its roof.

Stuart Cogan, a passenger in the Miata, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Alexandria Cogan has been charged with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, recklessly endangering another person and related offenses.
