A Lehigh County community is coming together to remember a 17-year-old high school student killed in a car crash.

Family and friends of Crystal Schaller held a candlelight vigil at the Covered Bridge in Slatington on Friday night.

"I didn't realize the impact that she made on everyone," said Rose Schaller, Crystal's mother."I am so thankful everyone is here."

"I have known her my whole life," said family-friend Troy Markell. "It's a shame."

Schalled was killed while driving home from Northern Lehigh High School Tuesday.

Authorities have ruled Crystal's death an accident.

Investigators say her car struck a utility pole and rolled over at the intersection of Mountain and Deer Roads.

At the vigil, a single red lantern was sent up into the sky in honor of Schaller. Dozens more in attendance held candles and comforted each other by the bonfire.

"She was beautiful, smart, outgoing, amazing, and just perfect," said Allison Steuer, Crystal's classmate.

"Every time I saw her, the first thing she would do is give me a hug," said Markell. "She was the best I miss her, I really do."

"I never knew my daughter touched so many lives and I am a proud father just for that," said Jamie Schaller, Crystal's father.

The Schaller's say they want everyone in the community to remember Crystal's jovial spirit and continue to spread positivity every day.

"She would just want everyone to be happy," said Rose Schaller. "She would just want everyone to be happy".
