SUV hits houses in Greenwich Twp.

It was a close call for neighbors along Old Route 22 in Greenwich Township.

"I thought it sounded like a big bolt of thunder and I came and looked and saw my steps were not here anymore," said Adam Heisey of Greenwich Township.

Adam Heisey's front steps were just the first things damaged in this trail of destruction.

Police say the SUV driver then proceeded to squeeze between a second home and car, sideswiping the vehicle and taking out another front stoop before coming to a rest against Taylor Donchez's home.

"He just hit the house. I guess and it was like a big, loud, like my house shook and everything," said Taylor Donchez of Greenwich Township.

Neighbors started knocking on the car window to wake the driver and try and get him to turn his car off. But they were startled when he went for round two.

"He turned it off, turned the lights off. And then he looked around, started the car up and he gunned that sucker and took off and then he hit the guard rails," said Heisey.

Police and paramedics responded to the scene, checked the driver out and then took him into custody to be tested for suspicion of driving under the influence. Police are awaiting those results before filing charges against the driver.

Meantime neighbors tell us they are thankful this was not much worse.

"You get a little nervous, a little shook up. I just could not imagine that it was a car," said Heisey.
