The widow of a fallen Stroud Area Regional Police officer and his 11 children got a very special Christmas surprise, a little bit early.
Officer Ruben Torres lost his life this past July after battling cancer. His wife is now raising their 6 biological children and 5 adopted children with special needs.
"One biological child had down syndrome and that inspired us to adopt more from Ukraine and Russia because they are institutionalized there," said Joanne Torres, Torres' widow.
Fellow police officers have spent the past few months collecting money and toys, to give the Torres' children a Christmas they will never forget.
"It shows what a brotherhood we have," said Chris Shelly, narcotics officer and event organizer.
Santa made a very special trip a little early, to see the Torres kids on Thursday night. He brought plenty of gifts and Christmas cheer along with him.
Torres' widow says she couldn't be more thankful for the outpouring of love and support for her and her children.
"Right now there is not much that makes me happy, but seeing my kids happy, makes me happy," said Torres.
