Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek has ruled the October death of Richard Scheuermann a homicide.

Scheuerman was shot by police after he twice rammed a cruiser car following an October chase that ended in Easton.

Lysek said the cause of death was gunshot wounds and self-inflicted stab wounds.

He ruled the death a homicide due to "the sequence of injuries."

On Wednesday, Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli said a bullet wound was the primary cause of the death of the 39-year-old Wilson man.

Morganelli stressed he had not made a decision on whether or not the shooting was justified or if charges will be filed against any police officers who were involved.

The district atttorney said Scheuermann also had self-inflicted knife wounds to the neck. which were "contributing causes to his death. "

The deceased man was involved in a police chase on Oct. 24 after driving on the wrong side of the road in Palmer Township and failing to stop for police.

Palmer Township police were joined by Easton police in the pursuit.

The chase ended in Easton, where police said Scheuermann crashed his truck into a utility pole and rammed a police cruiser twice before unidentified officers opened fire.
