A Christmas wish is coming true for eight-year-old Richard Klingensmith of Upper Saucon Township.

A total of $6,805 has been raised through the web site so his parents, Eileen and Walter Klingensmith, can get their son training with his new service dog.

The $6,000 goal was exceeded last Tuesday, two days before Christmas. His parents had hoped to reach the goal by Jan. 5.

Richard faces a number of health challenges including cerebral palsy, seizures, damage to the white matter of the brain, low muscle tone, and a condition that makes the lower part of his legs bowed.

The family will travel to Ohio to get the dog in January and stay there for two weeks of training, which they could not afford. They also need to pay for fencing for their yard, so the boy and his dog will be safe when they play outside.

The service dog is coming from "4Paws for Ability" in Xenia, Ohio.

Aileen said any extra money received will go toward paying medical bills for Richard, which have accumulated over the years.
