State Police are on the hunt for a rabbit thief in Strausstown.
The thief stole three rabbits from two separate homes on Main Street over the weekend.
"That is kind of scary," said Matthew Zimmerman, a neighbor.
"It is kind of sad. Like if I lost my dog I would be really upset because he is like a part of me. So I can only imagine how they feel. A part of them is now missing and ripped away from them," said Reiley Boyer, a neighbor.
Police say the thief entered the victims' back yards in the 100 block of Main Street.
At the first home, the thief stole a white rabbit out of an outdoor enclosure sometime between Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
The second time around the thief stole two rabbits named Thunder and Lightening sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning. Both the rabbits have manes like a lion, one is gray in color and the other is white.
Neighbors tell us these thefts could not have come at a worse time, with it being around the holidays, especially for the second victim who recently lost his wife in a car accident.
"He is really going through some hard times right now," said Faye Bigman, a neighbor. "For somebody to come in and steal his two rabbits, which his wife loved, I think is absolutely terrible."
If you have any information as to who may have taken these rabbits call Hamburg State Police at 610-562-6885.
