February Pets of the Month: Venus and Billy

Our featured Pets of the Month include two dogs that come from the Last Chance Ranch in Quakertown.

Venus is an 8 to 10 year old Border Collie cross-mix. She's great with any family and can fit into almost any situation.

Billy is a 2-year-old Wire Haired Terrier mix. He came to the Last Chance Rance as a stray. He gets along with other dogs, people and loves to play!

The Last Chance Ranch also deals with other animals that include horses, pigs, donkeys and mules.

Their annual gala "Boots, Barks and Bowties" will be held Saturday, April 11th at SteelStacks in Bethlehem from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Mostly cloudy weekend ahead, a few snow showers possible

Today: Rather cloudy, but not as cold in the afternoon. A midday snow shower, especially north. High: 37

Tonight: Mostly cloudy. Low: 28

Sunday: Mostly cloudy with a bit of rain late in the day. (most of the day dry, milder south) High: 40 Low: 31

***Winter Storm Watch for Monroe, Carbon and Pike Counties Sunday evening through Tuesday morning***

Mostly cloudy this morning with temperatures in the 20s…much better than yesterday's single digits! We anticipate two waves of low pressure to pass across the northeast today through late Monday, which will increase the chance of precipitation each day (rain, snow, mix).

Today, the first and lighter of the two waves (in terms of the amount of precipitation) will give us a rather cloudy day with a few snow showers, mainly to our northern counties. This wave appears to pass well to our north today through tonight. Little or no accumulation is expected, however higher elevations and areas north of I-80 may pick up an inch or two. High temperatures today will reach the upper 30s.

The second wave and the system of most concern (in terms of the amount and the type of precipitation) could bring some rain Sunday night into Monday, while we expect the majority of Sunday to be dry. The rain could mix with snow and ice as colder air attempts to wrap in on the back end of the storm later in the afternoon and evening on Monday.

Highs on Sunday will be near 40 degrees and fall back into the mid 30s on Monday.

If we see any snow accumulation the best chance would be on Monday, but would generally light accumulations. There still is room for the second wave to shift farther north (warmer resulting in more or all rain) or farther south (colder resulting in more accumulation). We will continue to bring you additional details as these waves move across the region.

Saturday's Powerball jackpot swells to $380 million

Time is running out for those who want to stake their claim on the $380 million dollar Powerball jackpot.

At Redner's Quick Shoppe in Spring Township, customers rushed to get their tickets.

Gary Flasher bought $50 in tickets.

"You got to play to win," said Flasher. If he wins, he says he would spend the money on a youth center. "I just see a lot of kids that need it in the community."

Luke Riffle was also feeling lucky. " I've got good luck."

Riffle is hoping to get some money to expand his web site where he says he shares weather photographs.

"It needs a couple additions," said Riffle, "and I think winning this money might help us to get to where we need to be."

But not everyone was racing to open their wallets to play Powerball.

"It's a waste of money to me," said Eddie Dietz from Wernersville. "Every time that I did it, no winning, and I'm putting out money after money and it's just a waste of my time."

"There's a better chance of being struck by lightning," said Kayleigh Rutkowski from Spring Township. "It's ridiculous. The chances are slim to none for a ridiculous amount of money."

The Powerball drawing is Saturday night.
