PennDOT announced that Wednesday, March 11, weather permitting, construction crews will start work on Route 625 in northeastern Lancaster County.
The $2,685,743 contract was awarded to Reading Materials, Inc., of Skippack, Montgomery County. The contract includes tree trimming, drainage improvements, roadway base repair, milling, bituminous resurfacing, new signs, and pavement markings on an 8.24-mile section of Route 625 from Route 23 in East Earl Township through the Village of Bowmansville to the Lancaster-Berks County Line in Brecknock Township. Work under this construction contract is scheduled to be completed by the end of August.
PennDOT advises those who travel Route 625 that they may encounter single-lane traffic restrictions with flaggers assisting them through the work zone on weekdays after 8:30 AM. Motorists are reminded to be alert for these operations, to obey work zone signs, and to slow down when approaching and traveling through work zones, not only for their safety, but for the safety of the road crews.
Sections of Route 625, known locally as Reading Road, average between 5,000 and 6,000 vehicles traveled daily. To avoid delays, travelers should allow for additional time in their plans or seek an alternate route.
