Berks County parks volunteers learning the ropes

The Berks County Parks and Recreation Department is saying welcome and welcome back to some dedicated volunteers.


The department hosted its first volunteer training session of the season Thursday at the Heritage Center in Bern Township.


Volunteers learned about the history of the parks and points of interest. They'll assist visitors and help plan special events throughout the year.


"It's also our way to kick off the season, get people excited about coming to help us with our events and programs, because without our volunteers we don't do anything," said Cathy Wegener, Berks County Parks and Recreation Department:
