Trucker killed in tractor trailer crash on Route 22 ramp

The driver of a tractor trailer was killed in a crash on a busy Lehigh Valley highway ramp Wednesday afternoon.

Northampton County Coroner Zach Lysek identified the driver as Panagiotis (Peter) Skyriotis, 46, of West Broad Street in Bethlehem.

Lysek said Skyriotis was pronounced dead at the scene. Skyriotis died of multiple blunt force trauma injuries from the accident, Lysek said.

The truck lost control and crashed while exiting Route 22 in Northampton County Wednesday afternoon.

The accident occurred at 1:05 p.m. in Bethlehem Township, on the ramp going from Route 22 East to Route 33 South.

The coroner was summoned to the scene around 1:30 p.m., according to county dispatchers.

State police at Belfast report the accident happened as the truck rounded a right turn on the exit ramp.

The trailer "came around to the left of the vehicle," causing the cab to roll onto its side and slide across the road. It stopped when it hit the end of a guardrail.
