Phillipsburg police shot and wounded a man holding a knife "in a threatening manner" Monday morning.

It happened just before 9:30 a.m. in a home in the 400 block of South Main Street.

Police responded to a report of an individual who was sending threatening messages.

When they confronted that unidentified male, he was holding a knife in a threatening manner and refused to leave the first floor of the house.

The man was shot by police after refusing to comply with their order to drop the knife.

He was given medical assistance on the scene, then transported to St. Luke's Hospital in Fountain Hill for treatment. His name is not being released until his family is notified.

One unidentified police officer also was injured in the confrontation, according to a news release from Warren County Prosecutor Richard Burke, but it does not reveal the nature of that injury or how it happened.

The injured police officer was treated and released at St. Luke's Warren Hospital.

Burke said three unnamed Phillipsburg police officers involved with the shooting has been put on administrative leave "until further notice" while his office continues to investigate what happened.
