Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane is confirming that she's testifying before a grand jury overseen by a special prosecutor.
Kane indicated Monday in a statement to reporters that the investigation deals with an alleged violation of grand jury secrecy by her office.
She said she could not legally discuss her testimony, but she said she is cooperating and does not believe there was any violation.
"I will tell the special prosecutor the truth and the facts surrounding the disclosure of information to the public that was done in a way that did not violate statutory or case law regarding grand jury secrecy," Kane said.
The Philadelphia Inquirer cited anonymous sources in reporting Sept. 1 that a grand jury was convened to investigate a June article in the Philadelphia Daily News. The story cited records from a 2009 investigation of the then-Philadelphia president of the NAACP by the attorney general's office.
The chief justice of the Supreme Court is responsible for authorizing such grand jury probes. He has not publicly disputed the Inquirer story.
