The Northampton County Fire School is celebrating 50 years of training emergency responders.

Over those years the teachers have taken pride in keeping lessons up to date with the latest firefighting techniques.

"The training is changing continuously, based on construction materials, different types of things, the contents of our house," saod Rick Weaver of the Northampton County Fire School Association.

Over the years, the dynamics of fires have also changed.

Weaver says in-house fires are much more intense than they were years ago with ordinary combustibles.

"Ventilation practices have also evolved," Weaver said. "Things need to be coordinated with fire suppression."

The Northampton County Fire School covers different levels of training ranging from how to wear and inspect gear, all the way to interior fire fighting.

"I am getting a great experience," Northampton County Fire School student Eric Norder said. "Lots of great instructors, everyone is very helpful."

The mission of the school is to provide quality training to the county's emergency service personnel at no cost to the students.

The school is located at 6 Nagys Hill Road in Bangor.
