President Obama is expected to announce Thursday night that he will sidestep Congress and take executive action on immigration.
Meanwhile, a new study released by the Pew Research Center helps paint a picture of how many people may be impacted by the proposed plan.
According to study, the "'unauthorized immigrant" population has leveled off in the U.S. at an estimated 11.2 million, however, in seven states along the East Coast, including Pennsylvania and New Jersey, the numbers have risen since 2009.
New Jersey has seen the largest growth in population of illegal immigrants by an estimated 75,000; Pennsylvania, by 30,000.
According to the numbers, the main increase in illegal immigrants to those states were from countries other than Mexico, including El Salvador and India.
Another 14 states, including New York, Arizona and California, have seen a decrease in illegal immigrants.
The report states that, although the number of illegal immigrants from Mexico is declining, they still make up more than 50 percent of the unauthorized immigrants living in the U.S.
