Three members of the Easton Area School Board say they're not resigning despite a grand jury recommending they do so.

They responded to the grand jury report Monday night after Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli announced the findings earlier in the day.

"I will not resign my position as a member of the Easton Area School Board," said the school board's vice president, Kerri Leonard-Ellison.

"A lot of these things that the grand jury has concluded are really based more on rumor than they are on actuality," said the district's solicitor, John Freund, who also spoke with the three board members Monday night.

The grand jury recommended Leonard-Ellison, Robert Fehnel and Frank Pintabone resign to restore trust in the district after a situation involving the district's former director of technology, Thomas Drago. He was accused of recording a meeting without permission and there were also allegations he was asked to spy on district administrators by accessing their computers.

Earlier Monday, Morganelli said, “I think the grand jury felt that in order to have a new day dawning here it would just be better to get everybody out of there who was involved in this Drago matter."

Board President Frank Pintabone said, "I have about 15 inbox messages in my Facebook account and numerous on my school board email address from residents saying, 'Frank, don't let them do it to you, you're doing great, we stand behind you.'"

Those who spoke Monday night said progress has been made in the school district over the past two years.

"Administrator and board relationships have improved and they keep on improving," said Freund.

The grand jury made other recommendations, including making a change to a district computer policy.

"The conversation needs to be had and I plan on having that conversation at the next committee meeting," said Pintabone.

Another recommendation was that the attorney notifies police of any similar incidents in the future.

Freund said, "I didn't see any basis whatsoever to contact law enforcement. It was an internal employment problem."
