Top News : Cumru Twp. residents voice discontent with nearby Reading shooting range

Several Cumru Township residents spoke out Tuesday evening during the Township's Board of Commissioners meeting, expressing displeasure with the nearby City of Reading bombing and shooting range.


The range is used by the Reading Police Academy for the enrolled to practice skills they will need on the job.


However, some Cumru residents complained to the board that they hear gun shots, bombs and grenades being detonated at all hours of the day.


Two residents commented that their homes shake from time to time and their sleep is disrupted.


While the residents agree that the range serves a purpose, the are seeking that the City of Reading limits the hours of activity or provides them with notice prior to detonations.


Commissioner Tony Sacco responded that he is unsure Cumru can do anything about the range because it is within the city limits of Reading.


The board suggested the residents take their complaints to a Reading City Council meeting.


However, commissioners offered to write a letter on behalf of the residents and send it to the Mayor's Office, Reading Chief of Police and the Managing Director of the City.
