The bitter cold temperatures did not keep some college students in Reading from raising money for a good cause.

Alpha Delta Pi sorority sisters loaded up on blankets and sat down in their rocking chairs as they kicked off their 10th annual Rock-A-Thon.

"This is something we are very passionate about. We will be raising awareness and money to be donated to the Ronald McDonald House Charities," said Amanda Osterlind, the President of Alpha Delta Pi at Albright College.

The Rock-A-Thon is an event to support a home away from home for families to be near their children while they are recovering or receiving treatment at nearby hospitals.

But this year's bitter blast was a shock to the system for many of the Albright students who came out to support the event.

"I am freezing right now. As you can see my gloves, I should have worn more clothing," said Travis Gray, the Vice President of Alpha Sigma Phi at Albright College. "I carried a radiator from the inside of the campus center building. And they have heated blankets, gloves and those little heat packets. The winter kind of came out of nowhere today."

The sisters will spend 72 consecutive hours taking shifts to continue rocking for the cause.

"We are just going to bear through the cold, layer up and have fun with it. We have coffee and hot chocolate. So, we will hopefully stay warm all night," said Osterlind.

They have a long road ahead of them because the cold weather will continue all day Wednesday and Wednesday night before temperatures get a bit more mild on Thursday.
