Alvernia University school officials are investigating a reported sexual assault that allegedly happened between students in a residence hall on campus in Reading.
Alvernia University freshmen Kayla Huey says she was quite surprised to learn of this type of incident on campus.
"I thought that was weird it would happen on campus," said Huey. "I didn't think it would happen."
69 News was able to obtain a copy of the email sent to all student and staff from the Dean of Students at around 6 pm on Sunday.
The full text of the email:
"On Saturday morning, November 15, an Alvernia student reported an alleged sexual assault by another Alvernia student in a campus residence hall. The report currently is being investigated.
With concern for campus safety, we want to make you aware of this incident. It also is an opportunity to remind all students that allegations of sexual misconduct will be addressed immediately with all appropriate university and external resources.
Relevant university expectations, resources, and procedures – including a definition of consent to engage in sexual activity – are outlined in our Sexual Misconduct Policy brochure, available on our website.
University safety is a partnership in which we all need to play active roles. Please play your part and help ensure the safety of all Alvernia community members."
