Salvation Army launches red kettle collection campaign

The Salvation Army of Reading is starting an intense fundraising campaign on the right note.

Music played and bells rang as the Salvation Army launched its red kettle campaign at Fifth and Penn streets in center city.

For the next eight weeks, bell ringers with red kettles will accept donations outside stores in Berks County.

The money lets the Salvation Army help people in need all year long.

"We know that crisis comes when it's inconvenient and when many are starting to run out of funds, but because of this, often we can be a yes when others are a no," said Mindy McCormick, Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army said its goal this year is to raise $200,000.
