Average price for gallon of gas in Berks falls below $3, according to AAA

The average price for a gallon of gasoline in Berks County is now below $3.


The price at the pump, as of Friday morning, stood at an average of $2.997 in the greater Reading area, according to AAA. It was $3.003 on Thursday.


Some gas stations in Berks County have been selling gas below $3 per gallon for at least a week. In fact, according to ReadingGasPrices.com, the price at the pump in some areas of the county is as low as $2.92, which is close to the national average of $2.914.


The new average is a significant decrease from just a month ago when drivers in Berks County were paying $3.27 per gallon to fill up the gas tank. The price a year ago was $3.25, according to AAA.


The national average price has dropped for 50 straight days, which is the longest consecutive decline since 2008, according to AAA, which expects gas prices to remain relatively low through the winter.


The state average price for gas in Pennsylvania is $3.029 per gallon. At $2.666 per gallon, South Carolina is the state with the lowest average. Drivers in Hawaii are paying the most to fill up. The average in the Aloha State is $3.966.
