The streets of Douglasville are calm right now, but that was not the case Sunday evening.
The Amity Township Police Chief, Kent Shuebrook, says a man is still on the run after an evening manhunt.
Police received unverified information Sunday that the suspect involved had a gun and wanted to shoot at officers. This information turned out to be wrong.
"That turned out to be not true but we found that out much much later after we terminated the pursuit for the suspect in the wooded area," said Shuebrook.
The Amity Township Police along with other local departments began a manhunt right around 5pm on Sunday evening after a call came in reporting a fight between two brothers on Hill Road in Douglasville.
"Upon arriving on the scene they observed a male out and when they attempted to stop the male, he took off into the wooded area," said Shuebrook. "They backed off because their information was that there were firearms involved. "
That turned out not to be the case. Police gave up on the search for Joseph wentzel for the night for safety reasons.
"He is very familiar with the terrain," said Shuebrook. "There are rocks and holes, little tiny caves and given what we were finally able to determine, in terms of level of the offense, it wasn't worth putting the officers in danger so I called off the search at that point in time."
The search for Wentzel will continue on Monday.
