Fire damages vacant home in Reading

Fire crews in Reading battled a house fire early Monday.

It broke out just before 1 a.m. in the 1200 block of Perkiomen Avenue.

Viewers tell us at one point flames and heavy smoke were shooting into the sky.

There were reports of part of the building collapsing.. and being unsafe for firefighters.

Reading fire officials said it appears the house was vacant and started on the second floor.

The main damage to the home was to the second floor bathroom and bedroom, as well as a second floor porch.

No injuries were reported.
