Law enforcement officials in Montgomery County announced Wednesday the arrest of 32 people in connection with a wide-reaching drug organization.

The suspects were involved in a heroin, cocaine and meth trafficking ring centered primarily in Norristown but operated throughout southeastern Pennsylvania, officials said.

At a news conference, authorities showed off a cache of guns, drugs and cash collected from the year-long investigation.

Officials said the drugs were coming from Mexico to California before being distributed in Pennsylvania.

Two of those allegedly involved met at Schuylkill County Federal Prison, and one knew a drug dealer in Colombia, as officials said that's how the ring got started.

Four of the alleged ringleaders will be arraigned Wednesday.

Federal agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration briefed detectives from the Montgomery County Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET) about a heroin trafficking wiretap investigation being conducted in Medellin, Colombia.

The briefing alerted NET to a probably connection to heroin trafficking in Montgomery County.

According to a news release, a seasoned NET detective listened to several international phone calls between a Colombian-based trafficker and a Norristown resident, and the detective recognized the voices as belonging to people involved in separate investigations in the 1990s.

The Colombian drug trafficker was identified as Juan Carlos Jaramillo-Gonzalez and Michael Daly was the Norristown resident. Both men been convicted in federal court 20 years ago, and developed a relationship with each other and with Angelo Betancourt Jr. while in federal prison, officials said.
