The Reading School District is warning parents of yet another reported abduction attempt in Berks County.

The latest attempt was reported Wednesday morning by a Southwest Middle School student, according to an alert on the district's website.

The student was waiting for a school bus at Lancaster and Hoover avenues when the man, driving a green vehicle, tried to grab the student and possibly expose himself, district officials said.

The district alerted its security team and city police. It also encouraged parents to remind their children to "be vigilant as they walk to and from school."

City police, describing the incident as a case of luring, said their investigation has revealed the man, driving a green SUV with tinted windows, offered the student a ride. The student refused, at which time the school bus arrived and the man drove off, police said.

The man was described as being white with dirty blonde hair and a scruffy beard, said police, who canvassed the neighborhood in search of surveillance video but found none.

This is the second reported abduction attempt in Berks County this week and one of several to have taken place over the past month or so.

An attempt Monday afternoon involved an 11-year-old girl who was grabbed in the area of Belmont Avenue and Wilson Street in Spring Township, police said.

The girl managed to escape by screaming and kicking her would-be abductor, said police, who subsequently released a sketch of the individual based on the girl's description of him being a Hispanic man who stands approximately six feet tall and drives a black SUV with tinted windows.

Anyone with information that can help police with their investigation is asked to call Crime Alert Berks County at 877-373-9913. A cash reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest.
