The search for an accused killer in Montgomery County is having an impact on neighboring Berks County.

Hereford Elementary School in Hereford Township, is part of the the Upper Perkiomen School District, which canceled classes at all of its schools Wednesday because of the ongoing search for Bradley Stone.

"Decisions regarding reopening of school will be made on a daily basis, based upon consultation with law enforcement and investigative personnel," the district said in a statement on its website. "Your ongoing patience and cooperation is appreciated."

The district said it will make an announcement by 8 p.m. Tuesday regarding whether schools will reopen Wednesday.

All Upper Perkiomen schools on Tuesday were placed on what the district referred to as a "lockout," meaning no one was allowed to enter or leave any of the buildings.

The district eventually got clearance from law enforcement to send students home, albeit later than normal, with the middle school dismissal at 3:45 p.m., the high school and 4 p.m. and elementary schools at 4:45 p.m.

Stone stands accused of killing his ex-wife and five of her family members in three different locations in Montgomery County early Monday morning. A seventh person, Stone's 17-year-old nephew, was seriously wounded.

Authorities have said they have no information about where Stone may be, but they ask area residents to remain vigilant as their search for him continues.
