If there was ever a home filled with the Sound of Music, it's a Bucks County farmhouse located along East Road.

"This place is part of American history," Will Hammerstein said.

The Doylestown farm was the home of his grandfather, world famous lyricist Oscar Hammerstein.

Oklahoma, The Sound of Music, South Pacific, Carousel. Musicals now ingrained into Americana were written at the home.

"I see a national treasure," Will said while the two of us stood outside the home.

Hammerstein, a Brooklyn based attorney, is now trying to preserve his Grandfather's lyrical legacy.

"The list of accomplishments Oscar Hammerstein made here are overwhelming," he said.

Hammerstein's nonprofit wants to buy the property, currently a bed and breakfast, and the surrounding five acres and call it the "Oscar Hammerstein Museum & Theatre Education Center."

His plan includes turning the home into a museum, the rundown barn into an interactive exhibit, and adding a small live theater that will feature Oscar's work, and serve as a training ground to cultivate young talent.

But what would a production be without a bit of drama? This all has to be approved by the Doylestown Zoning Board, which has to grant variances & special exceptions. If it's not the property will be sold and surrounding acres developed.

"The responsibility of caring for this legacy is something we all inherited. It's incumbent for all of us to put our heads together and figure out this logistical problems," Hammerstein stated.

Which would insure the music created here stays here.
