It was cause for celebration in Quakertown Thursday, as the community welcomed the first ever company to move its headquarters into the downtown.
Synergis Technologies moved into the Best Made Center, a former textile mill on South 5th Street.
The building has been an eyesore in town for quite some time, and took about a year to renovate.
David Sharp, President of Synergis Technologies, said the company started looking into a new home nearly ten years ago.
The software company was previously based in nearby Richland Township.
"Being an integral part of the community is critical to us and we did not have that option anywhere else," Sharp said.
Those in charge of transforming the building said keeping as much of the old factory as possibly was an integral part of the overall design.
"As you go through the building you'll see to show them off, the masonry walls, old steel trusses and the woodwork," said Jerry Gorski, President of Gorski Engineering.
Quakertown Alive, the downtown's non-profit revitlization group, said the move is beneficial to the community and local commerce too.
More than 100 employees will work out of the new building, giving small businesses a large customer pool, according to Naomi Naylor, Executive Director of Quakertown Alive.
"We are hoping that this is the catalyst to bring other businesses into our downtown."
According to Naylor, there is room for two other businesses to move into the Best Made Center.
