K-9 unit dogs sniffed out the streets as police blockaded the area around York and Walnut Streets in Pottstown at around 5 p.m. on Sunday.

This all after authorities say a man in a stolen car rammed into a building during a police chase.

The suspect got out of the car and began running. Authorities have not been able to catch him.

Police will not confirm or deny if the car chase suspect is involved with the recent shootings in the area.

Officials say the town hasn't seen this type of violence in more than two decades.

According to police, two men were shot and a third man was robbed in the area at the end of November.

Then in the beginning of December, 20-year-old Derrik Jackson was charged with killing 47-year-old Lori Sheridan.

Later in the month, a United States Postal worker was brutally assaulted at random while on his normal route, according to authorities.

Then on Christmas Eve a man was shot in the leg in the town. Police say he is expected to survive.

Clergy in Pottstown have been doing what they can to make the area safer. There have been multiple rallies and vigils over the past month to spread the message that violence is never the answer.
