A young boy was killed by a police cruiser Sunday evening in Franklin Township, New Jersey.
Police said the 10-year-old boy was crossing the street in Gloucester County around 7 p.m., Sunday with two friends on their way to a sleepover.
Officers said one boy made it across, and the victim was hit by the car in the middle of the road.
The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the officer was responding to a call. They say the officer, who was not identified, was taken to a hospital. They did not say whether he was injured.
Witnesses said the officer's lights and sirens were not activated.
The crash is under investigation by the prosecutor's office.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
