Some statistics show that second marriages are more likely to end in divorce than first marriages.
But it's not all bad news.
Relationship experts say many times, second marriages can actually be stronger than first marriages because the partners know themselves better and are more committed to getting it right.
We found a Lehigh Valley couple with that kind of fiery attitude about their second time down the aisle.
They are Dierdre Kamber Todd and Russ Todd, married five years now.
One of their favorite things to do is to make fiery bacon dark chocolate ice cream.
It's bacon, dark chocolate, hot pepper spices and ice cream, with a touch of cinnamon.
" It's hot. It's cool. It tastes delicious," says Deirdre Kamber Todd.
The Todds love spicy, unusual foods so much they have their own website devoted to it and they travel the country to jump into food competitions whenever they can.
"Deirdre can handle the hot food, I can eat fast and we just go around and enjoy different foods and competitions and enjoy each other's company," says Russ.
It's a hobby they feel is part of the glue that keeps them together.
Deirdre says she learned a few things from her first marriage.
"It's not enough that you're in the same stratosphere, whether you're being connected by what you do for a living, you know those superficial connections. At the end of the day, you've got to find something else that's going to keep it interesting," she adds.
Relationship experts agree that Deirdre and Russ are on the right track.
They say for a great second marriage:
* Find a common interest and explore it together
* Be honest and communicate about the past and the future
* Accept that there will be ups and downs
* Be patient and forgiving
Deirdre says it was Todd's idea to explore their goals often.
"He said as long as you're always keeping in mind those long term goals that are going to take you past, whatever bump in the road you hit, that eye toward the horizon, then everything else becomes fairly minor."
She says initially they would discuss goals once every three months to figure out if there were things they needed to address, predominately pertaining to their children and their blended family.
Deirdre is an attorney and Russ, an engineer. How do they find time for a hobby?
"We look for ways to fit it in to what we would do anyway," says Deirdre.

The snow came down hard for a good part of the day on Sunday, creating difficult and dangerous conditions on the roads. Cars were slipping and sliding on the snow covered pavement.
While PennDOT trucks were out salting working to prevent collisions, there was a PennDOT truck involved in an accident on Lower Macungie Road in Allentown.
No one was hurt. A truck came to tow the vehicle.
Due to to the rough road conditions, Penn Dot hasreduced speed limits to 45 miles per hour on major roadways including Interstate 76, Routes 202, and 309.
It isn't only us here in Pennsylvania who are experiencing this latest burst of winter weather. In the Raleigh-Durham area in North Carolina, the slick roads caused a massive pile-up involving at least 12 cars.
In St. Louis Missouri, a car spun out of control on the slippery road.
Then in Ft. Worth. Texas, winter weather turned the highway into a slip and slide, even SUV's with 4 wheel drive had trouble firmly gripping the slick pavement.
If you are venturing out on the roads, be careful. Black ice is expected to form.
It is one plan on the table to spur redevelopment in Whitehall Township.
"Whitehall has not been able to attract a lot of incentives up until now," said Howard Leiberman, Director of the Whitehall Township Industrial and Commercial Development Authority.
The incentive Leiberman is talking about is called a "Local Economic Revitalization Tax Assistance Act" or LERTA for short. It would be used to bring new life to commercial industrial and business properties like Lehigh Valley Dairy on MacArthur Road and the former Thomas Ironworks just north of Dark Town.
"LERTA is a tax abatement program so it helps the developer in cash flow," Leiberman said. "The real estate taxes that would be attached to a new development would be deferred over a 10 year period of time."
Owners of the buildings would continue to pay the taxes they pay now.
However if the LERTA program were to be approved, increased taxes as the property is developed would be incrementally phased in over 10 years. Therefore, the LERTA program would work as an incentive to develop those properties.
"The only disadvantages to be considered are those revenues don't go to the taxing authorities over the LERTA period," Leiberman said.
If LERTA is approved by the Whitehall Township commissioners, the proposal will go to the county and school district for their consideration.
Leiberman expects the Whitehall Township commissioners to discuss the incentive program Monday night.
