Police are investigating the scene of a fatal crash in Tamaqua Borough, Schuylkill County.


Officials say the accident happened Sunday around 8 a.m. on Route 309.


According to officials, the coroner was called to the scene.


At least one person is dead and one person was taken to an area hospital for unknown injuries.


No other information has been released at this time.

Wolf administration to show how it'll challenge gas industry

The coming days will provide the first glimpse at how Gov. Tom Wolf's administration wants to regulate the natural gas industry.


Wolf's Department of Environmental Protection is expected to release its plan next week to toughen rules over how the industry prevents methane leaks and how it stores toxic drilling wastewater in open-air pits.


Wolf's nominee to head the department says Wolf wants the industry to succeed. But John Quigley also says Wolf was elected because he was viewed as a candidate that would best respond better to public concerns over the impact of drilling on health and the environment.


The president of industry advocacy group the Marcellus Shale Coalition says the industry is closely watching for the administration's proposal to update regulations.

Phantoms rally to beat Senators in overtime

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms rallied for a 3-2 overtime win over the Binghamton Senators at the PPL Center on Saturday night.


Brandon Manning blasted his second overtime game-winner of the season midway through the overtime period.

Lehigh Valley resumes play on Sunday evening at Hershey. The Phantoms trail Providence by nine points for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Parkland boys basketball team has been nearly untouchable this season. The Trojans added another title to resume with a 46-38 win over Whitehall on Saturday in the District XI-AAAA championship game.


Devante Cross had 11 points for the Trojans while Whitehall's Brett Radocha led all scorers with 16 points.


The Zephys would get as close as six, but the Trojans put it away down the stretch.

NCAA RUNDOWN: KU sweeps; Alvernia, Muhlenberg win conference titles

The Kutztown men's and women's basketball teams won their PSAC tournament openers at home on Saturday to advance to the quarterfinals. At the Division III level, the Alvernia men and Muhlenberg women captured conference championships.


At the Keystone Arena, the Kutztown men pulled away from Shippensburg for a 77-54 win. The Golden Bears will travel to West Chester for Tuesday's quarterfinal round.


In the early game, the KU women held off a wild rally by Lock Haven and ended up running away late in a 74-52 victory. The Golden Bears face Bloomsburg on the road in the quarterfinals Tuesday.

At the Division III level, the Alvernia men won their third straight MAC Commonwealth championship, and third in the last four years, following a 58-51 win at Stevenson.


In the Centennial Conference women's final, Muhlenberg edged McDaniel, 68-64, to capture the championship.


Both Alvernia and Muhlenberg earn automatic bids to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Lafayette men top Army and clinch home playoff game

The Lafayette men's basketball team earned a 74-64 victory over visiting Army on Saturday. With Holy Cross' win over Boston, the Leopards clinched the 4-seed and a Patriot League quarterfinal home game against BU on Thursday.


Dan Trist scored 20 of his game-high 24 points in the first half and Nick Lindner added 15 in Lafayette's 74-64 win over Army.


The Lehigh men lost their regular season finale at Colgate, 61-55, but the Mountain Hawks had already locked up the 3-seed in the tournament.


Thursday's quarterfinal schedule is as follows:

Becahi girls win District gold, Conrad Weiser settles for silver

The Bethlehem Catholic girls basketball team won its third straight District XI-AAA championship on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Conrad Weiser girls rallied against Greencastle-Antrim, but it wasn't enough as the Scouts settled for silver medals in the District III-AAA tournament.


At Freedom High School, Jorynn Jones dropped a game-high 15 points to lead Becahi to a 44-31 win over Central Catholic. The Golden Hawks have won three straight District titles.


Alyssa Mack led the way for the Vikettes with 11 points.


At the Giant Center, Greencastle-Antrim used a barrage of three's to create a double-digit cushion early against Conrad Weiser. The Scouts rallied late but it would not be enough in a 57-52 setback in the District III-AAA final.


Hannah Racis paced the Scouts with 16 points. Tacari Talford poured in 11 while Anouk Ooms added 10 as Weiser took home well-earned silver medals.

Fire in Northampton Borough leaves home with heavy damage

A fire in Northampton Borough has left a twin home with extensive damage.


Officials say the fire broke out around 6 p.m. in the 800 block of Main Street in Northampton Borough.


Officials say fire could be seen coming from the roof of the home.


Fire crews on scene had to cut through the roof of the home to get to the fire.


No injuries were reported, and everyone was evacuated from the building.


Crews are still on scene attempting to put out hot spots, but the worst of the fire has been contained.

Husband, wife found shot to death in apparent murder-suicide

Authorities say a husband and wife were found shot to death in an apparent murder-suicide in a central Pennsylvania apartment where four other people, including their two children, were staying.


Police in Lancaster County say Manheim Township officers were sent to the Kensington Club apartment complex in Lancaster Township shortly after 9:30 a.m. Saturday after a call to check on the welfare of the residents.


Lt. Thomas Rudzinski said the man and woman were found dead of gunshot wounds, and ``it is believed that one of the two is the person who fired the shots.''


Their names weren't released.


Police said the couple's two children and two other adult family members were also in the house overnight, but authorities don't know when the shots were fired.

Moravian College hosts first Educational Fair for veterans

A local organization is doing what they can to put local veterans back to work.


Moravian College hosted its first ever Educational Fair for veterans on Saturday.


Issac Hudzinski was one of the participants at the event. Shorty after high school, he enrolled in the Marine Corp, serving two tours in Afghanistan over the past 5 years.


Hudzinski, who has his high school diploma, has dreams of becoming a high school history teacher. He is looking into colleges to help him attain his degree.


As part of the education fair, various organizations and colleges in the Lehigh Valley were on hand to discuss programs, and degrees with local veterans.


The organizers of the event say the goal is to position veterans to land good-paying, stable jobs.


According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the January 2015 unemployment rate for veterans was 7.9%. That is more than 2 points higher than the national civilian unemployment rate.

Shooting in Clinton Township leaves man critically injured

Police say one man is critically injured following a shooting at a home in Clinton Township, New Jersey.


According to a press release, the incident happened Friday around 11:15 p.m. at 57 Lilac Drive, Clinton Township.


Police say the resident, Louis Triandafilou, discharged a handgun inside the residence and struck the victim, Daniel J. Bearnarth, a 22-year-old Bridgewater Township resident, in the hand and abdomen.


Bearnarth was taken to a local medical center, where he was later flown to Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center for further treatment.


Officials say Bearnarth underwent emergency surgery and is currently listed in critical condition.


Officials say Triandafilou was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and possession of weapons.


Triandafilu was transported to the Hunterdon County Jail and was released upon posting of bail.


Police say the incident remains under investigation.

Police in Berks County arrest dangerous fugitives following traffic stop

Police in Berks County say they have arrested a pair of dangerous fugitives wanted by the FBI following a routine traffic stop.


One of the suspects was taken into custody after a car was pulled over for speeding on I-176 in Robeson Township around 10:30 a.m. Friday.


According to police, the driver, 29-year-old Reading resident Catherine Carrillo-Lozada, was wanted by the FBI office in San Juan, Puerto Rico on drug trafficking and firearms charges.


Police then learned that her boyfriend, 33-year-old Roberto Ramos-Segarra of Reading, was also wanted on federal charges.


Police say they called Ramos-Segarra to pick up his girlfriend at the Reading State Police barracks. When he showed up, police arrested him.


Both fugitives were taken into custody by FBI agents from the Allentown Field Office.
