Week in Review

It's time now to take a look back at the stories making headlines this week in the 69 News Week in Review.

Monday, a Pike County judge ordered alleged cop killer Eric Frein to stand trial.

Nearly six hours of testimony was given during Monday's preliminary hearing for Frein, at which time a judge ruled there is enough evidence to proceed to trial.

Frein is accused killing one state trooper and seriously wounding another during an ambush on the Blooming Grove barracks.

Prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty.

Tuesday Reading City Council members said they intend to repeal certain gun restrictions including an ordinance requiring people to report a lost or stolen gun within 24 hours.

Officials said the decision comes as the risk of getting sued grew larger with a new state law.

The new law allows people or groups to file suits against municipalities that have their own gun laws.

Wednesday, The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said the Phillipsburg School District discriminated against a substitute who was fired after giving a student a pocket bible.

The federal commission said the district was wrong for firing Walter Tutka for handing the student the bible after the student asked Tutka several times to explain a bible verse the substitute teacher had quoted.

The district is now considering whether to move forward with a reconciliation proposal from the federal commission.

Thursday, a grand jury recommended Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane face criminal charges for allegedly leaking confidential information to a newspaper.

The following day, Kane fired back against the grand jury report saying she did nothing illegal.

Kane's lawyer claims Republican men with political grudges are out to destroy the Attorney General's career.

Friday, six women were arrested in a Lehigh County prostitution sting.

Police said the manager of Aries Spa in South Whitehall Township 61-year-old Pun Son Hutcheson is facing a felony charge for promoting prostitution.

Police also charged five employees of the spa with third-degree misdemeanors.

Police said they had received numerous complaints about the spa since 2008.

And that's the 69 News Week in Review.
