Crime Alert Berks County's "Ribbons of Respect" campaign is really taking shape.
Municipal officials picked up blue ribbons at the Dairy Queen in Kenhorst on Thursday. They're being asked to put the ribbons on poles and trees on March 20 and leave them up for a month.
The ribbons show support for law enforcers.
Next year, the display will be in May, which is "Law Enforcement Appreciation Month." This year, organizers said they couldn't wait.
"We're doing it now. We want to show the local police we do support them and that, despite what's going on across the country, in Berks County we support the police 100 percent," said Chris Nein, vice president, Crime Alert Berks County.
Folks can get ribbons for their homes, as well. Pickup locations include the Dairy Queen locations in Kenhorst and Exeter Township; Chick-fil-A at Broadcasting Square in Spring Township; A to Z Vaccuum, 350 N. Park Rd., Wyomissing; Stein Flowers, 32 State St., Shillington; and Tina's Salon & Day Spa, 404 Penn Ave., West Reading.
Organizers said they hope the event gets bigger every year.
