Bethlehem Mayor Robert Donchez said the city will appeal an arbitrator's decision to reinstate a cop who was fired for misconduct.
Last year, Bethlehem City Council unanimously voted to fire Officer Richard Hoffman after he was charged with DUI while off-duty in 2013.
Police said his car flipped on East Broad Street and crashed into several parked vehicles.
Last month, an arbitrator ruled the city had cause to discipline Hoffman but not to fire him.
Donchez said he decided to file the appeal because of quote "the importance of this matter to public safety and related concerns."
City officials said there have been other instances of wrongdoing involving Hoffman, including an alcohol-related bar fight in Philadelphia.
